Attention Span of Kids These Days

by Emon on June 3, 2008

Jokes are made a lot these days of kids having a short attention span when it comes to video viewing online. Maybe it’s also because shit-work should not be viewed for than a few seconds when you have dozens of other options.

Create engaging content. It doesn’t matter if it’s 3 minutes or 3 hours.

Bang on. Also amazing what they are prepared to find out/look up if the work you produce is diverting or interesting enough in the first place. Again and again, I find that with books by people like CS Lewis, JK Rowling even Beatrix Potter, the authors treat their readers like equals. Soporific, for example, is not a word many editors would allow into a book for 8 year olds these days but there it is in Peter Rabbit….

Cheers

You’re right, BC, the key is to treat readers as equals.
