2008 Academy Award Nominations

by Emon on January 22, 2008

Somehow I’d missed the nominations announcement. Jason thinks Daniel Day-Lewis has it locked for Best Actor, which I agree. But I think there are a few other locks as well: Javier Bardem for ‘No Country…,’ Roger Deakins for either “The Assassination of Jesse James…” (my bet) or “No Country…” “Ratatouille” for Animation category. “No End In Sight” for feature doc. They’ll give best pic to ‘Atonement,’ original screenplay to Juno, and adapted to…now that’s a tough one. By the way, is this the first time the script for an animated film got a nod for best original screenplay?

Now to Cate Blanchett. She wins an Oscar for playing Katharine Hepburn, who holds the record for most wins in Best Actress category. Before she’s done with movies, Blanchett, I predict, will be the champion of nominations and wins beating out Hepburn and Meryl Streep. I don’t know of any other actress who has been so consistent and surprising since…whenever it was. Just look at the list of movies she’s done…and the ones coming out just this year! And if that’s not enough, check out the fucking trivia on her about all the roles she didn’t get to play!!

But this time, I’m sorry, Cate, you have to stay happy with I’m Not There and accept my new love, Marion Cotillard, for Best Actress. She’s already nabbed the Globes, and I did say she has to start working on her Oscar speech some time ago, remember? No? Oh, you’re just jealous… :)

It sucks to see Jonny Greenwood’s score being disqualified. [via FilmSoundDaily]
