The Ultimate Book On Screenwriting…From 1916?

by Emon on January 24, 2008

Such a book does exist and was written by a certain Capt. Leslie T. Peacocke

I have to, absolutely have to, give you a few snippets so you can see how little the business and language of movies have changed. Someone could’ve written this tonight, and would have needed minor changes.

That’s just the introduction.

IMDb trivia: Capt. Peacocke was born in Bangalore, India, and, according to Motion Picture World dated July 11, 1914, has produced 338 scenarios to date.

If you thought my previous post about Eric Howard’s book was old.

Captain Peacock??? Are you familiar with “Are You Being Served?”, the British sitcom? There’s a character named Captain Peacock and he’s mostly a stuffy old prig. I wonder if the writers didn’t name him such as an obscure commentary on this fellow?

I’ve seen that show maybe once or twice, but don’t know of a Capt. Peacock. It could well be named after this guy. I kinda like our Capt. Peacocke; he is zero BS.
