Men Who Count Bare Breasts in Movies
No, not talking about the characters from Knocked Up. These are living, breathing, and mastur-debating - not to mention, grown - men. Speaking of Knocked Up, here’s a site that went into great lengths to sort out the ‘bad’ stuff. Writer must have finished a whole box of Kleenex while writing this review - without shedding a single tear.
Speaking of reviews, here’s one that made me laugh - at the reviewer. Read it and tell me she’s not a failed screenwriter who’s obviously read way too many screenwriting books and attended way too many Robert McKee seminars. Some gems from this piece:
“In my generation “knocked up” was the most derogatory way that you could describe woman who was pregnant out of wedlock. The phrase was said in hushed tones in polite company and only heard out loud from the mouths of offensively crude men who were proud of their accomplishment of impregnation. Writer Judd Apatow could have come up with more appropriate name.”
“This is the first movie directed by Apatow that I have even watched, mainly because he finally left Will Farrell out of the cast. (The only movie in which I have found Will Farrell appealing is Elf.)”
“The thematic content of Knocked Up deals mainly with the relationship that develops between Ben and Alison. However, in the process of learning about the characters and watching them form that relationship, important topics are also addressed.”
“This movie is about adult, intimate relationships. Only those who have participated in one will truly understand the pathos, joy, irritation, comfort, and downright hilarity of working to blend two lives into a single one”
And the screen-writing books/seminars signature:
“Ben grows up and changes throughout the movie, but his buddies do not—and for all her beauty and seeming poise, Alison has quite a mouth on her when she isn’t in front of the television cameras at work”
Geez, reminds of the the infantile reviews I used to write in my ‘early’ days.

Yikes! Where to start? I wrote stuff like that for my high school newspaper - albeit music reviews, not movies. I cringe when I re-read it now.

Oops. Missed the link to the reviewer that I’d quoted.
Jim - When I read stuff from even a year ago, I cringe. Is it because I am much better at what I do now or I am much better in recognizing crap?
