Surprises

by Emon on September 25, 2008

Surprises come in many shapes and forms. Accepted. But when it’s out of the blue…that’s a fucker! Sometimes you surprise yourself with your abilities and sometimes with an unknown weakness - the same one you were convinced  you weren’t capable of having.

What we don’t know about ourselves, when revealed, can be a pleasant surprise or can be surprisingly unpleasant to deal with.

Do you really know the other person you deal with every day well enough? Have you ever had someone close reveal something that made you stop in your tracks and ask yourself: “Who is this?”

San Gennaro Freeze Frames

by Emon on September 24, 2008

Didn’t walk all the way from Times Square like I’d thought I could. The street was packed and people walked ass-to-balls in that tiny little space. I decided to just go behind the food stalls…life was happening there too.

A Walk Through Times Square

by Emon on September 24, 2008

After I’d been to the dentist, and had bumped into Elmo getting ‘bumped’ by Lehman Bros, I was on my way to the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy. Hadn’t been there in ages and wanted to go and see if I could take some pictures. Can’t walk through T-Square without getting some shots; the place never looks the same to me. It’s one of those sections of the world that is defined by, not the lights, the people who’re walking through. Some of them never come back and some walk by every single day.

I was too lazy to take out my camera and shoot so resorted to my trusty cellphone. Here are three from that walk. More cell pics here.

Zipskinny

by Emon on September 24, 2008

Zipskinny is a great source for the most basic info of a zip code, any zip code. Born out of a hobby using Census 2000 data, Zipskinny points out that it should be looked at as a ‘first glance’ site only. My favorite is the zip code comparison function that lets you compare up to 20 zip codes.

Add to that Google Maps’s Street View, EveryBlock, and Yelp and you have a nice little packet of research tools of neighborhoods. Nice if you wish to move - if you’d like to buy a house, try Trulia - and do a preview and great if you’re doing preliminary market research of population.
