Shiho Fukada’s Bangladesh

by Emon Hassan on January 14, 2008

Photographer Shiho Fukada picked up the camera only a few years ago. Yet her mesmerizing pictures give no such indication. Fukada’s visit to Bangladesh resulted in sets – all on her site50 Years Later, Bangladesh Ship Business, Life In Brothel, Child Labor, and Geneva Camp – known to a lot of Bangladeshi’s as the Bihari Colony. I’ve been there; a friend used to live a few blocks from it.

Found out about her via Digital Photo Pro magazine (print issue). Fukada had tried to get American magazines to run her ‘Life in Brothel’ series only to be turned down with:

“Third-world brothels have been done to death. What else do you have?”

Thank goodness for the Internet!
