Do Movies Have to Move to be Moving?

by Emon Hassan on October 3, 2008

Chris Marker’s La Jetee was made 45 years ago. This short, just in case, inspired Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys. Sometimes when I get bogged down with the ‘only-if-I-had-such-and-such-camera’ mode I think of this as a reminder that the power of still images when coupled with just the right sounds can have a sweet little impact on your viewers’ senses. Watch any of Ken Burns’s documentaries.

I’ve been thinking of doing a short project like this for some time now and I’d promised myself I’d do one video project by 2008, at least. Have to get to work, dammit!
