Film Music: UP vs. Sex & Lucia

Anyone else notice a similarity in the melody of Michael Giacchino‘s Married Life from Up, and Alberto Iglesias‘s Me Voy a Morir de Amor from Sex & Lucia? Similarities happen, but wondering if anyone else caught it. Doesn’t take anything away from both movies because they are both excellent.

Just got “Up” from Netflix and will be watching it tonight! How coincidental!

Thank you so much for posting these! I just noticed the similarity tonight while watching Mad Men (episode 5 of the third season). I thought the song playing over the episode’s credits sounded like the theme from Up but an internet search revealed it to be this track from Lucia Y El Sexo which I have not seen.

I instantly did a search for Giacchino and Iglesias to see if he credited the earlier movie for inspiring his theme for Up, but the only site to make the comparison seems to be this one!

I just saw Sex & Lucia and was thinking the same thing, which is why I did a search and came upon this site!

I hear it, too, but to me it is not a “steal” or anything nearly so black and white as that. Lovely waltz theme, isn’t it? I am intrigued by “Sex & Lucia” and will have to see the whole film now! I love Michael Giacchino’s work and think that he did a fantastic job with “Star Trek” and “UP”.
